Let there be peace on earth and . . .

Let It Begin With Me

a site dedicated to finding and keeping peace in our beloved world, trying to make sense of what happened on 11 September 2001

Welcome, family, friends, everyone--

Thank you for visiting this site.
We've heard from each other a lot since September 11. You'll recognize my title from the '70s song, and my URL from Psalm 91: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." In that secret place of mind and spirit, peace is found, kept, furthered.

The purpose of this site is to collect some of these materials according to trends emerging, to explore ways to help one another to enter and remain in that secret place of peace, whatever that may be for each of us individually.

After all, we sent out news, first-hand reports and experiences, insights and ideas, solace and comfort as that unbelievable week unfolded. We've forwarded e-mail 'round the clock. We've wept and fulminated, pounded fists and prayed. We've quoted our great literature and created some of our own. We've surfed the Net even as we've been glued to the TV. We've reached out to strangers and cherished close ones all the more. We've learned something of our vulnerability and fragility even as we've found new strength and hope--in our respective countries, in each other, in God, in words and the Word.

This web site is the outcome. It will change frequently and never be carved in marble, though it will contain many monuments. It isn't indexed with the search engines outside of what Freeservers may do, so it's truly a 'secret place,' at least for now.

You who are first reading this will be largely from two communities: literature and faith--and often both. You all have plenty to say, and I invite you to discuss what you mightn't be able to within the parameters of topical listservs. Bear with the guest book for a few days, I've narrowed the search for a more flexible forum and will make a decision shortly!

Come often and stay late, and bring your friends! Send me articles and photos you'd like me to put here--especially the photos!

Thank you for visiting my site.

With love,
Nancy Charlton

Discuss!
There will be a bulletin board or discussion forum shortly, as soon as I find a vehicle I like and can afford. Meanwhile, please sign my guest book via the Your Feedback link at the top of each page. I'll organize the comments and set up a new page for them until I can do something mor dynamic and interactive.

Commercials

Later on I'll make these active links to the pages I've been working on for months.

  • WordOrder: helping foreigners get it right in English. Editing and proofreading, with abundant material about quirks of the English language.
  • Weekly Poetry Fix: a group of poems on a theme, to be read, discussed, and loved. New each week.
  • Filio: a large number of carefully selected, annotated business affiliate sites whence I may derive emolument sufficient to do this writing and web-mastering full time, from wherever I might decide to go.
  • And several months into the future, The Turkey Leg Cookbook: elegant food from modest ingredients, with plenty of laughs.

    About FreeServers
FreeServers is a hosting service that offers free web pages. Since this has twice the space of the free page on @Home and since I'm moving and may have to discontinue that lovely cable internet service, I decided to put this page here so I can continue to edit it without interruption. Later on I'll upgrade to their paid service and get rid of the banners. Meanwhile, please use the services of their advertisers where it makes economic sense for you. Turns out there is some direct payments to me from these, so I'll donate proceeds to relief organizations and keep you posted.
